Frequently Asked ...

Q: Are you a wedding photographer?

I am not a wedding photographer, BUT I absolutely adore bridal shoots and engagement sessions so although I won't be there on your wedding day, I will happily photograph anything else wedding related. If you'd like recommendations, I will gladly send you to some of my superbly talented wedding photographer friends in the metroplex.

Q: Will my photos be edited? What does that mean exactly?

ABSOLUTELY! Editing is an essential step in the process to delivering a final product. Stray hairs? Blemishes? A piece of broccoli stuck in your teeth from lunch? Not on my watch. Does your newborn have baby acne or flaking skin? If they do, you won't see it in their photos so don't sweat it. Are you worried that you won't possibly be able to get a photo where everybody is facing forward and smiling because history has shown that be an impossibility? Believe it or not, there's also a solution to that! Part of a professional photographers job is knowing how to take bits and pieces from multiple shots and combine those into one final amazing shot where everyone is at their best and the clients are none the wiser- and that's important when working with small children and large families!

Q: How far will you travel?

I don't typically travel farther than 1 hour outside of Frisco, TX. Having said that, I'm a sucker when it comes to photography so I'd most likely say yes if you asked me to meet you in Florida.

Q: What locations do you use? Can I choose my own?

Once you have booked a date, I'll have you fill out a short online questionnaire that will help me better understand what you're looking for as far as location/scenery is concerned. Based on the answers to those questions, I will make some suggestions and then we'll decide on the final location together. By default, I will always suggest places that are open to the public free of cost. *Some of the more unique locations require a reservation and the owners charge fees to use the facility. I DO NOT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THESE FEES. In fact, I hate them. These fees can range depending on location and also range per season. Some can be as little as $50.00 or as high as $1,000.00. You will be responsible for the added cost of that location. (Bummer, I know!)* Answer to second question: YES! I love when clients have their own locations chosen because that means there's usually a special connection with that place. if that's the case, skip the location questions. There is a space left open for you on the questionnaire to tell me which location you'd like to use.

Q: Do you have an indoor/studio location?

Yes. I've got a large studio space setup inside of my home. We have a large game room upstairs that overlooks the studio and it's filled with every toy imaginable--so don't worry about bringing the siblings along and keeping them entertained!

Q: How do you handle bad weather on the day of the session?

Ideally, I only shoot in mosquito-free evenings in 70 degree weather with a light breeze and not a cloud in the sky, but we live in Texas so you might as well just go ahead and accept the high possibility that you will either be a hot, humid mess by the end of the session or freezing cold and windblown. Weather re-scheduling happens all the time so don't sweat it (no pun intended). I'll contact you on the day of the session in the event of extreme weather and we'll discuss whether or not you're up for it. I'm not afraid to shoot in any of the extreme weather conditions if you aren't. The exception to my tolerance to conditions is dangerous weather. I consider icey conditions or the possibility of severe weather or lightning dangerous conditions. Other than that, weather rescheduling is entirely your choice. If you want that beautiful, natural sunshine in your photos and the sky is gray...well, I'd much rather you reschedule than be disappointed in your photos!

Q: How long does a session usually last?

Full sessions last about 1 hour. Newborn sessions can last anywhere from 2-4 hours, depending on what type of session you're looking for and how many poses you'd like, and mini-sessions are no longer than 30 minutes. If you are someone who is prone to running late, let me know so that I can adjust our time to give you some breathing room to account for loss of evening sun.

Q: What time of the day do you typically schedule sessions?

Ideally, I prefer to shoot as close to sunset/sunrise as possible on a sunny day. I have more room on cloudy days, but we'll discuss time changes on the day of the shoot to make sure we get it right.  In the summer, this means a pretty late session. In the winter time, it can mean that a session starts as early as 4pm--I do morning sessions on very rare occasions (because it's usually SO EARLY), but sometimes it's the only time we have to work with, and that's just fine with me! Unless the chosen location is shaded, I probably won't be very open to scheduling a session between the hours of 10am-4pm... the exception to that rule is if it's an indoor session at my studio or the client's home.

Q: Do you provide props or do we bring our own?:

I usually bring small "seating props" if we're using a natural location without seating, which include blankets or stools but I welcome any props you'd like to use! Often times with little ones, bringing a toy or a ball they really love helps them warm up to the idea of my big camera and brings out their personality. Footballs are a popular choice among the little boys! This will be decided once the questionnaire is filled out--and if you see a photo prop on my website that you like, don't forget to let me know because it might be in storage.

Q: How/when do I pay? Do you require a deposit?

I accept cash/check/credit/debit/homemade desserts at the time of your session and only require a deposit from the crazy busy "christmas card photo" season that begins in September and ends around January. That deposit is half the cost of the session (it is NOT a separate deposit fee). IF you arrive without any of those forms of payment, no big deal--I will be happy to delete all the photos I took of you and never speak to you again. I'm KIDDING. You can also mail your payment or drop it by my house if you'd like, but I won't be able to begin editing until payment is received so keep that in mind!

Q: Do you provide digital copies of our session? What about a Copyright Release?

Yes! Both of those things are included in the cost of the session.

Q: How will I view and recieve my photos?

See that tab called Client Galleries? That is where you'll go as soon as I let you know that your edits are complete! I will give you a password that will allow you and anybody else who knows your password to access to your gallery. You can then download individual photos or your entire album.

Q: What are Sneak Peeks and when do I get to see them?

Sneaks are 5-10 photos from your session that you should receive within 24 hours of the shoot. They are unedited and in B&W, but they can be immediately downloaded and shared. I do not have a Facebook business page so you don't have to worry about me sharing anything on social media without you seeing it first!

Q: How long does it take you to edit a full session?

That depends. 5-7 days is average for a full session in the off-season. Mini-sessions usually take 2-4 days to complete. Newborns can take 7-12 days depending on how many skin issues the newborn needs fixing. Event photos range. Depends on what kind of event it is. During peak season (November-Jan), edits could take a little longer than average due to the large volume of holiday sessions. I work as fast as I possibly can and sleep very little to get your photos out as quickly as possible during peak season so that you can send out holiday cards, but the earlier you schedule these in the year, the better!
